A few words about my articles

For years I have been making friends and meeting people all over the internet. I've met a number of aspiring musicians, who all seemed to have something in common, besides the music, their lack of real awareness what the music industry is all about. In an effort to try to offer some insight to these music loving souls, I have written a series of articles.

Another propose for these articles is to inform other musicians, who would consider joining me in my musical aspirations, of my professionalism, ethics and moral standards.

The current list of articles I am currently featuring are:

"How to succeed in the music business"

"Singing tips for vocalists"

"Protecting your band name and your music"

"The money go-round"

"Am I allowed to breath, without a license?"

"What? I need to be a publisher too?"

"Personal Niche: your key to success."

I will continue to add more articles in the future. If there is a particular topic that you would like to see an article about, just contact me and request it. If I have enough requests for a particular topic, I write something or find something on that topic and post it.

Former Lead Vocalist for the C&W group, "Cheyenne"

To answer, in advance, a common ridiculous question... Yes, that really is me in that pic. It was taken in Islamorada, FL, in August of 2002. And no, it is NOT a wet T-shirt contest, I had sand all over my back. The sand gotten there because I fell down, after getting royally toasted on several Rum Runners w/ 151 floaters. Hey, the drinks were free. They were my reward for getting on stage with a Raggae band and singing Carol King. (I know, a country vocalist with a Raggae band, singing Blues to Pop tunes.)

More stuff? Well, I'm 5' 9", 42, Cinnamon Red hair, jade green eyes and a feisty Irish attitude. Trust me guys, this Ft. Lauderdale, FL, transplanted to the west coast, woman is one of the sweetest women you could ever wish to know. However, just don't piss me off.

All things music

I've loved singing since the day i was born. My mother once told me that I could sing, before I could talk. My sister will attest that, to this day, she has heard me singing in my sleep. Of all my musical experiences, without a doubt, being a part of Cheyenne was the happiest, most exciting facet of my musical life. I love my guys, they were and still are best of friends. Age wise, I am right in the middle; but, to them, I'm their little sister ... and talk about protective!

The reason for our split was due to differing goals and interests... not to mention the geographical distances. They had been together for 12 years, before I showed up. me: I was just happy to be in a really great group and didn't yet understand about goals and interests. Although we had the common trait of having a love for the music and performing our original stuff, they wanted about 5 - 10% original music in their routine, while I wanted 90 - 95%. Our interests were the same in many ways, we both loved the genre in which we performed and the type of original music we did. Yet, our goals could not have been further apart. Me: I had to have the recordings, the almost exclusive original music thing, a lot less touring, touring in bigger places (Quality, not quantity). They were quite content with hopping from one nightclub to the next, from coast to coast, singing cover tunes for free beer and just enough money for food, gas and a night in a hotel room... to the tune of 4-5 nights a week! My idea is for 4-5 nights a month... maybe 2-3 out of town.

The genre was something I never thought I would be doing. I used to hate country. While I had my roots in classic rock-n-roll, and vocal training in opera, I began singing professionally in Jazz and Blues. Through a twist of fate, like it or not, I discovered that I was a country girl. I tried it and loved it. But still, I had to mix my rock-n-roll roots and my jazz and blues into the pot. In Cheyenne, we had two lead guitarists who felt the same way, their influences were Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

For an example of our music ... and my voice and songwriting ability ... please, by all means, check out the link to the Cheyenne music site.

Notice to musicians in the San Jacinto/Hemet (Inland Empire) area:

I've always loved music and singing, but I've never known as much love, passion and fun as I have known from doing Country. Attitudes and professionalism are far superior... it's all about having fun and the love of the music. Unfortunately, due to geographical distances and goal variences, after 5 years together, we are splitting up. This now leaves me with the unfortunate task of putting together a new band. So, if you are a musician, love to play, live within 100 miles of San Jacinto, CA and you would like to get involved in something special, please, contact me.
